Language Access is an Empowerment Right by Julia Alanen
Julia Alanen published an article in the International Legal Studies Program Law Journal on the significance of Language Access in the United States. In her article she discusses in detail the scope and gravity of the language access crisis, the challenges of achieving linguistic integration, language access barriers exacerbating undocumented immigrants’ unique vulnerability to victimization, language access in the justice system, domestic instruments guarantee plenary language access, using international human rights principles and instruments to advance language access and finally language access advocacy strategies and solutions. Julia Alanen is an attorney of law and is currently working as a project manager at CLINIC (Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc.) on a Violence Against Women project. She is also a consultant at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Co-Founder of Global Justice Initiative, Inc.
