DCLAC Presents Testimonies at 2010 Oversight Hearings
The staff, SMART youth, and member organizations of the D.C. Language Access Coalition recently submitted testimony at the 2010 D.C. Oversight hearings. Those who testified sought raise awareness among Council members about the ongoing challenges faced by limited and non-English proficient (LEP/NEP) community members when accessing vital services at government agencies. Advocates highlighted the positive steps that many agencies are taking to better serve the language access needs of the LEP/NEP community, and provided specific and feasible suggestions on ways agencies could further improve these efforts. The Coalition hopes that the combined efforts of staff, youth and Coalition member organizations in providing these testimonies will draw the attention of Council members and strengthen their commitment to providing equal access to government services for all District residents.
