Strategies
The Coalition aims to educate the limited English proficient community about their rights under the Act. In addition, it works to support emerging leaders in the immigrant community by creating leadership opportunities around the issue of language access.
The Coalition regularly reviews the Biennial Language Access Plans of the D.C. government agencies covered by the Act. The Coalition plans to submit amendments to the Language Access Act.
The Coalition monitors the D.C. governments’ implementation of the Language Access Act by documenting noncompliance, filing complaints, collecting bona fide stories, and developing necessary advocacy tools to advance the civil rights of immigrants in D.C.
The Coalition is committed to enhancing its own capacity and that of its members through fundraising, VISTA recruitment, leveraging resources, and building programs that enhance language access compliance while empowering the voice of immigrant communities in D.C.
The Coalition brings the community's perspective and a long-term, systemic approach to language access. We believe that no matter how good the laws are, if people are not self-empowered to access those laws and demand their rights, then many good laws will go unexecuted.
