Coalition issues Letter to Councilmember Catania
On September 29, 2008 the Coalition issued a letter to Councilmember Catania urging him to seriously consider ways to support language access services, especially interpretation services, for District residents seeking healthcare and treatment at community based healthcare organizations. The letter makes special reference to the testimonies provided by Isabel Van Isschot, Director of Interpretation Services at La Clinical del Pueblo, Michael Mora Sanchez, a patient who regularly uses language interpretation services at La Clinica, and Jennifer Deng-Pickett, the Coalition's Director, during the annual hearing on the status of compliance for the Language Access Act. In issuing this letter, the Coalition and its members desire Council to recognize the important role language interpretation plays in delivering quality healthcare services to LEP/NEP clients and to help empower them to take better care of their health and well-being.
